Time Stealer 2010 (The Evils of Supercoach)
April 10th 2010 02:19
I have long since given up making new year's resolutions. There's little point going through the self loathing that comes with breaking a promise that you were never going to keep in the first place. I'd like to think that I'm a man that knows his weaknesses and plays to his strengths - and self restraint is not something I do well.
So what's with the self philosophy? Well, if I had made a new years resolution, It would have been "no Supercoach in 2010."
2009 saw me while away so many hours tweaking my Supercoach teams (yes, I had multiple entries) that I could have accomplished amazing feats had I devoted my attention elsewhere. Sure last year I was unemployed and I had some spare time but now that I'm back on the nine to five train I hardly have the necessary time to dedicate to fantasy football that it demands.
Keeping track of ins and outs, injuries, upcoming rookies, players on the rise, who's hot, who's cold - It's a full time job in itself. I promised myself I wouldn't do it again....
But promises are made to be broken and Mr. Hyde signed me up to SC2010.
Starting up in round two seems to have some good advantages. Getting in at this point lets you see who's traveling well and grab some good value before the prices go up in round 3. For example, not many would have taken Barlow before round 1 but after round two he is almost a must have player. Same goes for Silvagni. Even if they only play one more game you are going to make money. And how spewing would you be if you lashed out on Ablett before round one?
Hopefully I can go a few better on my top 2009 weekly ranking of 16 and bring home a little cash but even if I strike the grand for a weekly win it will be the toughest thousand bucks I've ever made.
