Round 13 Tipping Horrors
June 20th 2008 03:35
Not to brag, but currently I'm leading the work tipping competition with what I feel is a respectable 76 for the season to date. Despite reading recently that this year has been the easiest in ages to pick a winner, I'm fairly proud of my efforts (especially considering my less than impressive past results - previously I think 76 would have been a good result for the entire year!).
Being on top is starting to weigh on me. I'm more a customed to starting slowly and coming home with a wet sail just to be pipped on the line. As such this round seems extrodinarily hard for me to pick, even though the odds suggest some clear favorites.
Friday nights clash against the perenial underachievers, Freo and the Saints poses one problem. Frmantle are favored by the odds since their win last week at home, but the Saints are usually OK at Telstra and a few axings this week might light a fire under them. Flip a coin.
Brisbane V Adelaide at the Gabba should be interesting. The Lions are tough at home, but the crows get Burton back and play a restrictive game that the Brisbane midfield struggled with last week against the Dogs. I think the Lions just, but you can get some good odds on Adelaide, so it may be worth a flutter.
The Carlton / Essendon rivalry could make this game closer than it should be. Carlton are on a role and should do it easily, but so are the Bombers (well for them anyway) and stranger things have happened.
Collingwood were disapointing last week. Their midfielders were woefull. With some key pies out (Fraser and Cloke) you wouldn't expect them to match it with the Dogs, but that's exactly when Collingwood seem to win.
The other games should be fairly straight foward, although Richmond aren't without a chance againts Port and the Cats have had one close call over west this year. I can't remember a harder round for me to pick this year, but maybe I just feeling the pressure of a mid year lead. hopefully I won't give Mark Williams a target for ridicule by round 22.
Good Luck
