A Great Year for the Bombers

I should perhapse lay my cards on the table from the outset and start off by saying that I am a life long Essendon supporter. As such, being a spritley 28 years of age, before this season I have only ever known one coach. Kevin Sheedy. I know I was already born when he started the job at Windy hill but I'm struggle to remember what happened last week these days, let alone the VFL when I was but a rugrat.
It's also safe to say that, at the start of the year, I was fairly skepticle of Mathew Knights' coaching credentials. He could bearly win a game as coach for Bendigo and the years he captained Richmond were not exactly their most prolific or stylish (let's not forgett the flat top lest it makes a come back).
Given the manner of Sheedy's dismissal (I for one would have been happy for Sheedy to coach until he died, and even then I think he could have carried on for a couple more seasons Weekend At Bernies style) and when compared to his chief opponent in the battle for the coaching spot, Damien Hardwick, who was an Essendon premiership player and premiership assistant coach, I wasn't prepared to cut Knights much slack.
However, after last weeks win over the Blues I'm not ashamed to say that Knights' star has risen a little in my eyes. Any season where we beat Carlton twice is a good on in my books. Especially when last weeks effort may go some ways into putting the blue baggers back in their place ( which is not in the eight).
